Research Demonstration/Performance by Ka Fai Choy (Singapore) - Notion - Dance Fiction @ São Luiz Teatro Municipal (Lisbon) in the scope of 3rd edition InShadow - International Festival of Video, Performance and Technologies.Synopsis:Presentation of Ka Fai’s absolutely innovative research on the digital muscle memory. Notion is a demonstration performance exploring the possibilities of muscle memory as a digital form for recording, playback and real-time mapping of movement-based technique. Inspired by the evolution of dance history in the last century- from Butoh, through Ballet, to the Pina Bausch and Merce Cunningham’s Contemporary Dance -, the performance attempt to install digital muscle memory implants from a selection of iconic dance movement vocabulary into a singular body as it learn, adapt and recreate within the multiplex of kinesics expression. Through electrical impulses that induce a particular movement, a dancer recreates historical dance choreography, after playing almost involuntarily to a sequence of moves that depart from the previously stored by the body.Dancer: São Castro
