InShadow

InShadow is an innovative initiative from Vo’Arte in co-production with São Luiz Teatro Municipal. In its 3rd edition, the Festival grows and affirms itself as a reference in the scope of transdisciplinary contemporary creation, highlighting the convergence between image and body and processes of artistic creation founded on technology. The vitality of an open dialogue is assured by joining the experience of consecrated artists with the visions of emerging creators.

InShadow presents in 11 days: 4 performances, 3 solo performances, 5 installations, 2 exhibitions, 5 workshops, 3 masterclasses, 1 talk and over 100 films from directors coming from 20 different countries screened in 6 special sessions, five video-dance, video-performance and video-art competition sessions showing 44 films from which 7 are an absolute premiere, 2 an international premiere and 35 a national premiere and three competitive sessions on the newly created DocShadow section, with 7 documentaries of creative processes. To 2012, 8 new extensions of the winning films from the competitive sessions are confirmed, to be held at cultural organizations throughout Portugal, Brasil and The Netherlands.

The Highlights

Notion – Dance Fiction, by Ka Fai Choy (São Luiz Teatro Municipal, 9th and 10th December, 9 p.m.), an artist from Singapore that is currently developing a groundbreaking study that seeks to prove the mimetic ability of the movement, made possible by muscle memory, induced by small electric shocks.

Vo’Arte supports the national creation with the co-production of a new performance by MãoSimMão: LAN em Fuga (São Luiz Teatro Municipal, 7th December 9 p.m. / 8th December 5 p.m. and 9 p.m.).

In video, we highlight the screening of the Australian documentary Life in Movement, a premiere in Portugal, which draws a posthumous portrait of the renowned choreographer Tanja Liedke’s life and work.

Canada is the invited country, through the curator Judy Gladstone, director of Bravo!FACT (Foundation to Assist Canadian Talent), including special video-dance sessions and animated films.

Rui Horta heads the Jury of the video-dance, video-performance and video-art international competitive sessions, in which will be presented 48 videos of 20 countries.
