LEIMAY Ludus Training, is envisioned by artistic director Ximena Garnica as a laboratory investigating the potential of the performer’s body and offering a thorough yet non-codified, instinctive, conscious and rigorous way to train and explore the performer’s body. It furthermore contributes to the understanding of LEIMAY’s distinctive aesthetic. LEIMAY’s Ludus Training does not rely on any one particular technique, but it is rather constantly reinventing itself; opening to internal and external dynamics, approaching and valuing training as an act of cultivation and growing of the body embracing its voice, its soul, its intellect and its physicality.
In the next months, throughout the SOAK festival, and the rest of the year, LEIMAY’s Ludus Training will offer a variety of: Ludus Labs by international butoh artists Moeno Wakamatsu, Yuko Kaseki and SU-EN; by LEIMAY’s dancers Savina Theodorou, and Andrea Jones; and the first annual Ludus Summer Intensive by artistic director Ximena Garnica. There will also be opportunities to participate in our Movement Think Tanks for the upcoming LEIMAY piece, Becoming-Corpus at BAM Fisher.
This Ludus Lab will focus on: physical training for awareness, strength, flexibility, body mechanics, sensitivity and concentration. Embodying the differences of texture, weight, transparency, element, color, lightness/darkness, and the temperature in the body and in the space. Active listening by distinguishing the density, current, pulse, and vibration of time and space. Not to move, but to be moved. Knowing the direction of the desire of dance. Shifting boundaries through placing ourselves outside of the space, and placing our desire in the space.
